The end of an advertising era, ends again

Posted by David MacGregor

We’re back in a familiar place. Now that the second half of the last season is set to begin, Mad Men’s final farewell (technically, stage two of its final farewell) is upon us. If you’re a fan like me, you’re sad to see it end. As I’ve blogged before, it’s one of the few shows I’ve let myself get involved in since devoting way too much time to Lost some years back. I do love Blue Bloods with Tom Selleck, but I digress.

One Final Season

Screen-shot-2014-04-11-at-11Like millions of Americans, I was excited about the Sunday night premiere of Mad Men’s final season. Excited and a bit sad, too. There hasn’t been a lot on television (other than my New England Patriots) that has interested me much in recent years. Watching this show about the heyday of advertising has been a real pleasure, not just for me but my entire family. My wife, son, daughter and I have watched just about every episode and always enjoy discussing the shenanigans after the fact.

SA2While Aloft Group’s client base and primary business focus are global in nature, we are all very committed to our local community and to helping those among us who are less fortunate.

On February 20th, Aloft Group joined the Newburyport, Massachusetts, Chapter of The Salvation Army to bring some joy—and some fantastic food—to those in our area who could use a little of both. Our very own Brent Martino, Digital Director and chef extraordinaire, prepared (with the aid of Aloft President Matt Bowen and Director of Brand Development Chris Langathianos) a delectable dinner of baked ham, garlic roasted potatoes and green beans for the 90 people who joined us.

chinaThe allure of cheaper costs leads many organizations to consider manufacturing their products in China, where labor costs can be significantly less expensive than here in the US. While the savings can be substantial, there are potential obstacles to consider.

Here are some of them:

Five Things I Hate About Social Media

Posted by Brent Martino

Jan 9, 2014 4:56:00 PM

mimitwI’ve been busy the last several weeks redesigning our website. As a result, I’ve had to put off writing this post. Now it’s due and I can’t think of a thing to write about. As I sit here pulling my hair out I can hear my former creative director, Don Crane, saying “Just write what you know.” I can also hear him say, “Do you ever stop complaining?” Well, Mr. C., one thing I know is social media and that I do love to complain, so in honor of the fabulous Mr. Crane I give you, Five Things I Hate About Social Media:

Let’s go to work, Gracie

Gracie-1This is Gracie. And this is the “don’t leave me at home” look she often gives me when I’m getting ready to head to work. Since I’m a complete pushover, she regularly accompanies me to the Aloft Group offices. Once there, because she is a creature of habit, her routine is almost always the same.

As the car turns into the parking lot, Gracie jumps to the window with anticipation, barely able to contain herself until I open the door. She bounds from the car, immediately surveying the ground under our large maple tree to see if the squirrels that regularly taunt her are lurking about. Heading inside, she excitedly runs through the building to see who’s around, warmly greeting the women, tentatively greeting the men (she’s a bit leery of the guys, though she’s getting used to them).
